Dr. Hendun binti Abd Rahman Shah is an Associate Professor at the Faculty of Syariah and Law, Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia (USIM). She has held pivotal roles in the faculty over the past several years including Deputy Dean for Research & Innovation (2019-2020) and Coordinator of the Postgraduate Diploma in Judicial and Advocatory Practice (2015-2018). Her scholarship earned her the prestigious USIM Excellent Academician Award 2023. Dr. Hendun’s expertise spans across areas of International Law, Peace, Security and Conflict Resolution, as well as ADR, Sulh-Mediation, and Islamic Family Law. Her research and consultancy work has made a profound impact on peace and conflict resolution initiatives, including projects with the Autonomous Region of Mindanao (ARMM), UNESCO Chair of Futures Studies USIM, University for Peace, the Institute of Public Security Malaysia (IPSOM), and the Centre for Governance, Integrity, and Anti-Corruption (GIACC). She obtained a certificate of completion in teaching Human Rights and Peace Studies from Asean University Network Human Rights Education (AUN-HRE) (2021). She joined the Teaching and Researching International Law in Asia (TRILA) programme (2021). She has previously conducted a research project on ‘Future Literacy Lab for Peace and Conflict Resolution in Emerging Issues of International Law and the Muslim World’ under a special USIM-UNESCO grant. In alignment with national goals to enhance social well-being, Dr. Hendun has led the development of the Sulh Mediation Skills Professional Certificate module in collaboration with the Department of Syariah Judiciary Malaysia (JKSM). Through the Sulh-Mediation Skills Course, the SiDR team has secured over RM441,000 in grants to train various professionals, including USIM graduates, military personnel (KAGAT), and the Department of Legal Aid Malaysia (JBG). Her leadership extends to serving as an academic representative in the National Sulh Think Tank and as a Visiting Fellow at JKSM, where she advocates for sulh and alternative dispute resolution (ADR). With a strong commitment to community service, Dr. Hendun is actively involved in ADR literacy and civic education programs. Dr Hendun and her team efforts have secured over RM1.5 million in research and consultation funds from diverse sources, including the University, Ministry of Higher Education, embassy, local governments, NGOs, and international institutions. Dr. Hendun’s unwavering dedication to advancing peace, justice, and education continues to make a significant impact both nationally and internationally.
