The Bachelor of Laws and Shariah with Honours is a pioneering double-major programme designed to equip students with an in-depth knowledge and skills in both civil and Islamic (Shariah) legal systems. This unique combination aims to produce graduates who are competent in addressing contemporary legal challenges from both perspectives, making them versatile and highly sought-after in various legal and Syariah-related fields.
- Dual Expertise: The program offers a rare opportunity to specialize in both Shariah and civil law, enabling graduates to function effectively in diverse legal contexts.
- Practical Experience: Students engage in hands-on learning through a fully equipped moot court, internships, and real-world case studies, preparing them for roles as advocates, legal consultants, or Syariah experts.
- Professional Accreditation: The program meets the standards for professional legal practice in Malaysia, ensuring students are well-prepared for legal certification and roles within Syariah courts or the broader legal system. The program is accredited by the Legal Profession Qualifying Board of Malaysia (LPQB) that qualify the degree holder to be recognised as a ‘Qualified Person’ to admitted under section 3 of the Legal Profession Act 1967 (Act 166) as an Advocate and Solicitor (High Court of Malaya) commencing from 16th November 2021.
This is a 5-year (10 semesters), full-time program.
Graduates of the Bachelor of Laws and Shariah with Honours are well-prepared for careers in both Shariah and civil law profession, including:
- Legal practitioners (lawyers, Shariah consultants, legal advisors)
- Government and regulatory authorities
- Academia and legal research
- International organizations and NGOs focused on legal or Shariah matters
- Double Major: Students learning experience of foundational subjects in both civil laws and Islamic jurisprudence, offering a balanced curriculum including legal professional skills.
- Electives: Specialized electives courses allow students to focus on selected area of knowledge such as Law on Intellectual Property, Medical Law, Maritime Law and etc. thus enhancing their expertise.
- Research Opportunities: Students have the option to participate in legal research projects, particularly in emerging areas like Islamic finance, human rights, and contemporary legal challenges.
