Program Education Objective (PEO):

PEO1

Scholars capable of conducting in-depth original research and intensive writing by applying relevant knowledge and skills for continuous professional development, utilizing digital and numeracy skills to enhance scholarship, and exploring business opportunities in the Sharia and judiciary professions, both locally and internationally, through the integration of Naqli and Aqli knowledge. (PLO1, PLO2, PLO4, PLO5, PLO7).

PEO2

Scholars respected for sustainable practices and interpersonal skills, able to serve as experts in Sharia and judiciary, with the ability to communicate or argue convincingly and effectively. (PLO3, PLO6, PLO8).

Programme Learning Objective (PLO):

  1. Develop new and original ideas/ijtihad and concepts, or expand on existing ideas and concepts in Sharia and judiciary.
  2.  Conduct intensive and in-depth research and writing for academic scholarship in Sharia and judiciary fields.
  3. Demonstrate intellectual competence and interpersonal skills to become a recognized expert in Sharia and judiciary.
  4. Critically assess issues in Sharia and judiciary using scientific skills.
  5. Adapt practical skills to generate innovative ideas in Sharia and judiciary.
  6. Produce original, well-researched papers and theses that meet academic and ethical standards.
  7. Show the ability to expand knowledge through lifelong learning with an entrepreneurial mindset relevant to Sharia and judiciary.

ACADEMIC ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

  • A Master’s degree in the relevant field or a related field recognized by the Senate; or
  • Other qualifications equivalent to a Master’s degree AND relevant professional experience recognized by the Senate; or
  • Candidates without relevant qualifications in the field or work experience in a relevant area must complete prerequisite courses as determined by the Faculty.
  • Master’s degree students who are currently enrolled and have fulfilled the requirements of Regulation 8.0 and received Senate approval to convert their studies to the Ph.D. level; or
  • A Bachelor’s degree with the following conditions:
    •  A Bachelor’s degree in the relevant field or related field with first-class honors (CGPA 3.67 or higher) or its equivalent from an academic program or Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET);
    • Must undergo an internal assessment; and
    • Any other requirements set by the JKPSU.

Note: 1 year of work experience is equivalent to 0.05 CGPA.

ENGLISH LANGUAGE ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

Applicants must provide evidence of English language proficiency based on the following criteria:

    •  TOEFL with a minimum score of 180 (computer-based) or 64 (internet-based); or
    • IELTS with a minimum score of Band 5; or
    • MUET with a minimum score of Band 3; or
    • Graduated from an institution where English is the main medium of instruction, AND required to take the University English Proficiency Test (UEPT) with a minimum score of Band 3; or
    • Graduated in Teaching English as a Second Language (TESL), English Language Studies (ELS), or equivalent from a university recognized by the Senate; or
    • Candidates are native English speakers.

Applicants in the research mode who wish to write their thesis in Arabic must meet the following criteria:

    •  TOEFL with a minimum score of 150 (computer-based) or 52 (internet-based); or
    • IELTS with a minimum score of Band 4; or
    • MUET with a minimum score of Band 2; or
    • UEPT with a minimum score of Band 2.

Applicants who do not meet any of the criteria under A & B are allowed to register conditionally and must fulfill any of the criteria under A or B within 12 months (for Master’s students) and 24 months (for Ph.D. students).

Academic Careers

  • University Professor or Lecturer: Teaching Syariah, Islamic jurisprudence, or related subjects at universities or Islamic institutions.
  • Researcher: Conducting academic research in Syariah, Islamic law, and judiciary topics, contributing to legal theory and jurisprudence.
  • Dean or Academic Administrator: Managing academic departments or Islamic law faculties in universities.

Judiciary and Legal Sector

  • Syariah Judge (Hakim Mahkamah Syariah): Serving as a judge in Syariah courts, handling cases related to family law, inheritance, marriage, divorce, and other Syariah matters.
  • Legal Consultant (Peguam Syariah): Providing legal advice and services on Islamic law, representing clients in Syariah courts.
  • Shariah Advisor for Financial Institutions: Working with Islamic banks or financial institutions to ensure compliance with Shariah laws in banking and finance.
