– On 24TH October 2018, the Faculty of Syariah & Law (FSU) Legal Clinic has successfully organized a talk entitled “Suicide among youth”. The talk was delivered by Dorothy Leong from Befrienders, Seremban. Befrienders is a Non – Governmental Organization (NGO) which helps people struggling with depression and suicidal thoughts in the country. It has several branches throughout the country. Besides offering face to face consultation, Befrienders also receives calls and email from anyone who wanted to get into their service. Suicide is the act of intentionally causing one’s own death. Among the factors which give rise to suicide includes depression, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, personality disorders, and substance abuse like drugs or alcohol. Suicides may also happen due to stress, financial difficulties, troubles with relationships, continuous harassment and bullying. There are various solutions which can used to prevent a person from committing suicide and the best solution is to be a good listener and try very hard to understand the problem face by the person. The two hours talk was attended by FSU students and the university staffs.
