BACHELOR OF SYARIAH AND LAW WITH HONOURS

This is a unique programme aimed at producing holistic graduates capable of competing in the era of globalization armed with firm and concrete foundation of both syariah and law. Being the first double major programme combining syariah and law; graduates of this programme are expected to be of international class and professional capable to fulfil the needs of the dual legal systems in Malaysia. 

Program Objectives:

  • To produce graduates with integrated expertise in the field of Syariah and Law both theoretical and practical.
  • To produce recognised graduates with professional expertise and qualifications, who are able to practice both in the Civil and Syariah legal system.
  • To educate world-class graduates who are capable of fulfilling the needs of the society, government and private agencies.
  • To produce knowledgeable, ethical, honest and responsible graduates in their respective working careers.

CAREER PROSPECTS

Graduates of this program can anticipate massive career prospects both in the government and private sector. Public departments that needs recruitment from Syariah and law graduates includes the Syariah Judicial Department, Mufti Department, State Religious Office, Syariah courts an the Attorney General’s Chambers.

STRUCTURE OF STUDIES AND GRADUATION

 

Total Units

To obtain a Bachelor in Syariah and Law (Honours), students are required to attend and qualify with a minimum of 200 units for the assigned courses

 

Exemption
USIM Academic Senate/Board has the power to approve exemption to Total Units as stated above on these grounds.
 The students have completed the required number of units for the courses exempted.

 Maximum unit exemption given will be based on the academic achievement of the individual student and subject to the agreement of the programme.


Course Duration

• Bachelor Degree (Honours) students shall complete the programme in not less than 10 semesters and not more than 14 semesters from the date of registration.

• Students with valid reasons can request an exemption to the maximum 14 semester rule to complete their studies from USIM’s Senate. However, failure in examination is not considered as a valid reason.

• The minimum number of semesters to complete a Bachelor Degree programmes for students given exemption will be based on the total units exempted.

 

Entry Requirements

Has passed the Malaysian Certificate of Education Examination (SPM) including obtaining credits in at least 5 of the following subjects:

• Arabic Language (communications)/ Advanced Arabic Language
• English Language
• Pendidikan Islam / Tasawwur Islam/ Pendidikan Syariah Islamiyyah/ Pendidikan Al-Quran dan Sunnah and
• Mathematics;

OR other equivalent qualifications for candidates from other countries;


And

A passing mark with a minimum B- grade in Arabic and Syariah at Higher School Certificate (STPM);
                                                             Or
A passing mark in Advanced Islamic Certificate (STAM) with a minimum “jayyid ” level;
                                                            Or
A passing mark in Tamhidi Syariah and Law Course, USIM;
                                                            Or
Possess a recognised Diploma in Syariah or Comparative Syariah;
                                                            And
Passing with a minimum of 3 band in the Malaysian University English Test (MUET)
                                                           Or
Equivalent qualification and master English and Arabic at a level considered satisfactory for foreign candidates.
