Syed Salim bin Syed Shamsuddin is a senior lecturer at the Faculty of Syariah and Law, Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia (USIM). He graduated from International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) for the degrees of Bachelor of Islamic Revealed Knowledge and Heritage (Hons) (Fiqh and Usul al-Fiqh) minoring in Psychology in 2000 and Master of Islamic Revealed Knowledge and Heritage (Fiqh and Usul al-Fiqh) in 2002. His master thesis entitled ‘Al-Ikhtilaf al-Fiqhi Wa Mada ‘Alaqatih Bi al-Tabdi‘ Fi al-Fiqh al-Islami: Dirasah Tahliliyah Tatbiqiyah’ (Different Opinions In Islamic Jurisprudence And Its Relationship With The Issue Of Accusing Others Of Heresy In Fiqh: An Analysis And Practical Study) was conferred an excellence grade by his supervisor. He started his academic career in 2002 as a matriculation lecturer at IIUM Matriculation Centre, Petaling Jaya, Selangor. In 2003, he joined USIM as a lecturer and was later promoted to senior lecturer in 2009. He has been teaching various fiqh and usul al-fiqh subjects in undergraduate level particularly Fiqh al-Ibadat, Fiqh al-Muamalat, Fiqh al-Munakahat, Usul al-Fiqh, Textual Studies in Fiqh and Usul al-Fiqh, Introduction to Fiqh and Fatawa and Introduction to Turath Books. He is actively presenting papers at various international and national seminars and conferences as well as writing academic publications in the area of fiqh and usul fiqh which are mainly concerned on the issues of fiqh al-Ibadat according to the Shafi‘i school, misinterpretation of al-bid‘ah, adab al-ikhtilaf, Islamic turath and the contributions of Malay Muslim scholars in the field of fiqh. He is currently an exco member of the Unit Khazanah Ilmu Turath (UKIT) USIM under the Office of the Vice-Chancellor since 2016.
